Biomass, a renewable energy source, is biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms, such as wood, waste, and alcohol fuels. Biomass is commonly plant matter grown to generate electricity or produce heat. Biomass is renewable, theoretically an inexhaustible fuel source, uses low-cost waste products, sources are commonly available and locally produced, it is reducing greenhouse gases and it is available throughout the world.
Initially planned as a 500MW solar thermal plant, the U.S. Army’s FortIrwin power plant might end up double that size, generating an output of about 1GW.
